It has become the practice for high schools in the United States to observe Career Days for senior students for decades now. On this day, school students are introduced to careers available to them by business professionals in the school. But these days are proving insufficient to enable the students of the high school to plan their future. That is why youngsters and most adults seek the advice of coaches in career development.

Personal Coaches in the business of career development offer a service to people and they are planners of the careers. A lot remains to be done to help the youngsters. When the career options are enumerated for pupils of high schools, it helps them to develop a better understanding leading to more efficient planning and much more enrollments in colleges leading to a productive future society.

For many high Schools, a Career Day’s practice has taken the kind of a whole Career Week to tackle those problems. A couple of days in this week are utilized to introduce the seniors to seasoned community professionals for different career pathways.

These assessments help the pupils of high school to become aware of their strengths and weaknesses and to investigate where interests and their values. These assessments are then fed into a computer system. The system generates a report outlining the best career options for that specific student. The students then go through training through the Handbook of the Occupational Outlook.

The Handbook of Occupational Outlook is a top rated career development tool for career development in high school’s arsenal. This publication has been put by the Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics of the United States in the book form in addition to its electronic form. This allows the pupils to access valuable information about the details of career, industry outlooks and job prospects for the education, the future, and salary.

When these assessments of career development of high school students are over, they undergo interviews with the trainer of career development or either the high school’s counsellor. These students are directed through the interviews to explore the career options, have discussions with the tutors and reach decisions about the field in which they would like to create their careers. Several resources are given to the pupil of the school to give a start on his career development path to him.

Another aspect of actions of career development is that the tutors of personal career development or the counsellors visit the classrooms and take important sessions on target setting and its importance in livelihood development. These students get resources to start to pen their strategy down for individual career development and to place their goals.

Actually, career development idea and its importance are not new concepts for pupils of high schools nowadays. These initiatives will prepare more and more students of high schools to begin careers or education as soon as they finish High school leading to a society with a future that is more productive.
