Sri Lanka is a wonderful tropical island located in the Indian Ocean. The country is blessed with natural resources, biodiversity, wildlife, heritage and mesmerizing holiday hotspots. When it comes to vacations, Sri Lankan beaches rank first on any relaxer’s guide. Not only are they serene, sunny and golden for a perfect sunbath, but they are also diverse compared to one another and ideal for a party destination as well. Understanding various travellers, we know the two types of relaxers who visit island nations.

  1. Those who want to lay under the sun, sipping a piña colada while soaking up some Vitamins.
  2. Those who believe ‘what happens in Vegas, should stay in Vegas’

Sri Lanka caters to both. Here is a relaxer’s guide to the ultimate beach vacation in Sri Lanka. We’ll look at different coastal destinations around Sri Lanka that would fit your budget and your expectation.

3 Star average LKR 5,000 (p.p per night)

Located in the famous Southern Province, Hikkaduwa is a place where every traveller should visit if they happen to be in Sri Lanka. It’s known among surfers, beach lovers and the greatest party people. The waves are ideal for a good swim, surf lessons are available around the area and you can find some great hotels and comforting resorts in Hikkaduwa that would easily fit your budget. The evenings are usually lit and perfect for an ecstatic moment, so make sure you have the best December of your life.

3 Star average LKR 5,000 (p.p per night)

Located in the southern stretch, Mirissa is a lot like Hikkaduwa, but slightly underrated. It’s known for Whale & Dolphin Watching, undeniably breathtaking waves, relaxing beach resorts, the famous coconut tree hill, and sunbathing. (Although, almost all Sri Lankan beaches are perfect for that) Mirissa is ideal if you’re travelling with a bunch of buddies and is a stunning photography spot too if you’re an aspiring Instagram influencer.

3 Star average LKR 7,000 (p.p per night)

The Negambo beach stretch is located in the northwestern province of Sri Lanka. It’s generally not a famous tourist destination compared to the previous ones, but it’s a magnificently beautiful beach to visit. The most thrilling sight to see would be the fisherman’s sea journey. Additionally, it’s located by the Negambo Lagoon which is famous for Prawn farming and fishing. The beaches here are far less exposed to the travelling world and less populated, so if you prefer a serene and tranquil getaway, Negambo is your pick.

3 Star average LKR 7,000 (p.p per night)

If you’re in the number 1 category of travellers, we could guarantee you a mind-blowing holiday in Pasikudah. Finding the proper resort could be quite tricky though as the East Coast is much underrated, compared to other beach stretches in Sri Lanka. This place is a highly dense local area but with a lot of space and serenity for a vacation seeker. Famous hotels including Maalu Maalu and Anantaya would be perfect for your stay! Make sure to pick a room overlooking the sea, wake up before dawn and watch the sunrise before your eyes.

3 Star average LKR 7,000 (p.p per night)

Are you a crazy surfer? The waves of Arugambay would surely challenge you, and these are not for the amateurs either. Like Pasikudah, Arugambay is located away from the urban side of the Eastern Province. The beach area in the present is a little dense with a majority of tourists, but the experience is the same. You can find many resorts, ayurvedic spas and renowned hotels in and around Arugambay which would make your hotel stay exotic, eccentric and so Sri Lankan.

3 Star average LKR 7,000 (p.p per night)

A serene white beach located in the suburbs of Trincomalee, Nilaveli is one of the most untrodden beaches in Sri Lanka. Not only does it consist of white sand, but the stretch is also located far away from the town, which means no hustle-bustle of the locals. You’d find it the ideal location to relax, sunbathe, quench on a mojito, and just be you. However, finding good resorts around this area would be a difficult task, but located a little further away is Cinnamon’s Trinco Blu. The hotel is wonderful with a beach sight so magical compared to the surrounding area.

3 Star average LKR 5,000 (p.p per night)

Located in Karainagar in Jaffna, Casuarina beach is one of the most famous coasts in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. Although the Northern villages are very much similar to South India, the beaches are drastically different. Casuarina beach is famous for its white sand, palm trees and the scorching sun. The North preserves very strict cultural values, hence why by night, the city goes to sleep. If you’re an explorer, the day time would be perfect for hunting new discoveries. Up until recently, tourists had a hard time finding proper accommodation in the northern province, however, the newly opened Jetwing Jaffna would be your saviour, making your Holiday exceptionally full of experiences.

So here you go, the perfect December Vacation Destination! Sri Lanka is affordable for everyone, safe for any type of travellers and blessed with a lot of wonders and makes up the ideal location for you.
